FEATURE BRIEF

VBSTAR (VBrick Stream Transfer And Record) Appliance Hard Drive

Purpose

  1. Record MPEG-2 from an encoder in the same unit

  2. Record MPEG-2 from a VBrick on the IP network

  3. Deliver MPEG-2 files as a stream ("StreamPump") on a continuous or semi VoD basis

  4. Transfer recorded MPEG-2 or WM to up to eight remote locations (see FTP)

  5. Deliver WM via progressive download for low volume VoD applications

  6. Deliver conventional web services for low volume web page delivery

Description

The VBrick hard drive is the ideal vehicle for recording high quality video without regard to potential network issues that could otherwise disturb the quality of a recording, and the ideal vehicle to use the exclusive VBrick StreamPump technology to stream the recorded MPEG-2 video file.  The VBSTAR in the WM appliance is called the "Archive" feature.

Key Functions Key functions include:

    1. Recording MPEG-2, WM
    2. Pumping MPEG-2
    3. Delivering WM via Progressive Download (via FTP) directly to players

Notes & Limitations

Record from a single local encoder or decoder

Hard drive records from a single local encoder or decoder.

Portable or mobile encoding and recording.

- Up to 2 encoders or decoders plus hard drive per VBStar.

- 1 file can be recorded at a time

- Can FTP or pump stored video file while

  recording (b/w limits)

Record from the network

Hard drive can record any VBrick MPEG-2 video from the network

Archiving remote video

Can FTP or pump stroed video file while recording. (b/w limits)

Record a file incrementally

Example: turns a 60 minute recording into 60 one minute recordings

Surveillance (24 x 7) recording. Eliminate editing of larger files.

Enables real-time store and forward of high quality video in low bandwidth enviornments

Incremental recording interval and duration is configurable.

Record based on event triggering

Use contact closure or other event to trigger recording & FTP transfer

Surveillance, remote control, etc. Record and forward critical events. Capture only needed video.

Pump single video

Unicast or multicast pumping

Digital Signage, advertising, broadcasting, emergency alerting

Pumped file can be continuously looped

Pump batch of videos

Videos in batch file are pumped sequentially

Automatic Playlist

Pumped batch file can be continuously looped.  Up to 4GB and 99 files in a batch.

Auto pump new file

File is automatically pumped upon FTP reception

Store & forward.

Automatic playback to the network or to a local decoder

FTP file after recording

Auto FTP up to 8 destinations

Ideal for sending higher quality video over low bandwidth links.

FTP destination can be a a VBrick Media Control Server  (autoingest), another VBStar, or FTP server

VBSTAR does not have a true VoD server or "pump" for WM content.  However, see "Progressive Download" below.

FTP file after recording

Auto FTP up to 8 destinations

Ideal for sending higher quality video over low bandwidth links.

FTP destination can be a VBrick Media Control Server (autoingest), WM server, another VBSTAR, or any FTP/Web server

Progressive download from built in web server

Limited to approx. 10 simultaneous users, with bandwidth limitations

Self-contained VoD for small office, classroom, conference room, etc.

Video files recorded to, or placed in /Public folder on the hard drive.  Access content using FTP protocol (use VideoAlive.com players for simplicity).

VBCorpCast VBEduCast

VBPresenter

WM appliance w/hard drive can record presentations.

Self-contained presentation server for small office, classroom, etc.

Recorded presentations can also be FTP’d to VBrick Media Control Server server for archive.

Notes & Limitations

Hard drive

MPEG-4 only unit not available with a hard drive

If the VBrick has a MPEG-2 encoder or decoder then VBSTAR is an available option but ONLY performs the MPEG-2 functions described above.  No MPEG-4 recording operations are available.
