FEATURE BRIEF

Join Own Multicast

Purpose To prevent certain poorly-designed network equipment from flooding multicast traffic.

Description Certain Ethernet Switches & Routers that claim support for IGMP V2 will flood all ports with multicast traffic unless there is at least one client that has joined the group. This feature causes the VBrick to send a special "join" command to the network. The feature is transparent to networks that do not require it, and it can be disabled if desired.

Key Functions Key functions include:

    1. • Join the same multicast group that an encoder is sending to

Applications Applications for serial port passthough includes:

    1. • All Multicast networks
    2. • Good network citizenship
