VBrick Delivers Comprehensive Solution to Extend HD Streaming Video Across Distributed Enterprise Environments
Fulfills Need to Simplify HD Streaming Video Distribution in Multi-site Organizations Amidst Explosive Growth in Multimedia Tablet and Smart phone Use

Wallingford, Conn. – May 10, 2011 – Enterprise IP video leader VBrick Systems today introduced the industry’s first comprehensive Enterprise Content Delivery Network (ECDN) platform for the efficient distribution of live and on-demand rich media content over a wide array of enterprise networks.  The Distributed Media Engine (DME), which is being shown this week at Streaming Media East, ensures that video content can be viewed on virtually any multimedia device, including smart phones and tablets.  In addition, advanced bandwidth optimization enables DME-based solutions to exceed the video demands of today’s globally distributed workforce.

VBrick’s DME is the networking element of the VBrick Enterprise Video Architecture (VEVA), which spans video capture, distribution, play-out and overall video content management.

“Video is our business, so it is only natural for our management team and staff to demand the highest quality experience when they broadcast an internal meeting or corporate event. VBrick’s DME is enabling my team to optimize our WAN infrastructure while providing all of our staff better access to live and stored video.  The DME complements our existing VBrick investment and will better enable BET to deliver rich media on a greater variety of endpoints in the future,” said Russell Banks VP, Technology & Operations, BET Networks.  “As we grow our business and connect new sites to our network, we’re confident that the DME will enable our staff to create and consume more HD quality video—without compromising the performance of other essential applications that we rely on to run our business.”

The use of IP video is exploding across the enterprise, driven by applications such as executive and event broadcasting, training, digital signage and IP television distribution.  Existing approaches to video networking, which optimize the routing of traditional data instead of video, are not designed or equipped to handle the unique demands of video traffic.  In addition, the ability to consume HD video—and the format of the video required—varies broadly across large screen displays, desktops, smart phones and tablets. Failing to manage routing and protocol issues results in a poor user experience and limited access to content.

The DME has been specifically engineered to solve these challenges. In concert with VBrick’s video capture appliances, the DME dynamically adapts the rate and underlying protocol of the video to accommodate different networks and different device types. For example, many industry analysts predict 2011 will be the year that smart phone and tablet sales eclipse PCs. CIOs and network managers are consequently under pressure to support a myriad of mobile device types.

“As our customers increasingly turn to video as an essential communications medium, we are meeting this accelerated demand with industry-leading innovation to optimize bandwidth management and ensure a superior viewing experience,” said John Shaw, Chief Operating Officer, VBrick.  “The launch of DME underscores our efforts to ensure all of customers—many of whom operate in distributed, multi-national environments—can realize the power and efficiency of rich media communications.”
